Chemical Prophet and Chaos Poetry

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

A couple of weeks ago I was rambling on about the Secret Life of Chaos documentary.  I then wrote a Folding Mirror poem inspired by the poem, including what I could remember about the theories espoused.

New Folding Mirror Poem

Thanks to Claire Knight by the way, who has created three new Folding Mirror poems that will be on the fmpoetry site in the near future.  The first, about being housebound in the snow is on the site now.  Perhaps fittingly, at least for the first half of the poem, the snow is falling heavily at the moment.

Prophet of the Chemistry Periodic Table

Prof. Jim Al-Khalili, who presented The Secret Life of Chaos, has a three part documentary about how the science of chemistry evolved.

I had no idea about chemistry before watching it, but a lot of it has interest, and it is amazing and enthralling to see the dangerous lengths some scientists went to in their research.

Yesterday’s programme, The Order of the Elements, described how Dmitri Mendeleev literally dreamt up the order of elements for the periodic table, which was a massive breakthrough in the field.

So don’t feel guilty about sleeping!

Devil’s Whore

Friday, December 5th, 2008

It was the docs yesterday, and today I’m rambling on about the best drama series I’ve seen on television this year, or for many a year maybe, although my memory might be biased towards the current (green), as the previous might be grey in the ol’ grey matter now.

Yes, it’s hopefully informative viewing for all those who want to hate all Britain for its empire and colonialism.

About 400 years ago British people were battling for the freedom and human rights that are enjoyed in the country today, although the current state of the country suggests they weren’t successful enough, and that it might even be going backwards lately.

It’s also big on highlighting female status, and women’s rights, which is still an important issue in this country and even more so around the world.

It’s also got loads of greenygrey scenery.  I thought they might have visited this website, although it was planned 14 years ago and it was filmed in South Africa.

Links below, and have a great weekend!
