Hello, it’s Wolfgang von Greenygrey here. I was feeling down recently, with things not going well in the Greenygrey world, but then I read Marc Latham’s ant theory article on Existential, and it gave me renewed hope that the Grand Council can be controlled, because it made me believe that they may not be the architects of reality after all.

Hi, it’s Green here. It feels a bit strange being here all alone, after Grey left to travel Australia. I hope it keeps in touch, and I hear from it soon.
I noticed our ol’ partner, Marc Latham, has been journeying through the universe on the Planck telescope, and it inspired a new space poem.
It doesn’t seem fair: they’re off having exciting adventures, and I’m stuck here holding the fort, but I suppose I get to talk to you lot more, so that’s one big positive. Cheers.

I put my last Nepal video up on YouTube yesterday, and the sunrise from Machermo in the Sagarmatha National Park took me back to that morning six months ago for a while.
There was also a great sight in the Leeds sky last night, and should be tonight too, as just after sunset Venus is shining brightly just above a crescent moon in the western sky.
The pair were the only visible celestial objects in the western sky after the sun had dipped out of sight at about 9.30-10.00pm in the last of the sky blue light, with Venus looking like it had been shot out of the open mouth of the moon, whose shape was visible because of Earthshine off the then departed sun. I was informed of this by One Minute Astronomer.

There was a blog about the meditating and yogaing Yogi on BNT, and I added this comment:
———————————————————–
I saw that story and also came across a couple of related quotes/thoughts this week.
Firstly, on his new Discovery series looking at the universe, Stephen Hawking said that alien life forms might be beyond our comprehension and understanding, such as learning to live on things unknown on this planet, like the yogi might be doing.
Then I had a webzine newsletter with the following JFK quote:
‘The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need men who can dream of things that never were.’
We know a lot more than our ancestors, but our descendents will know much more…
———————————————–
So although Paper is the Planet’s Gold may seem a strange slogan at first, these are strange days…

Hi, I’ve got a free new article about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill on Suite 101.
There’s also a new Folding Mirror poem about the different views and contexts that a plane has when it lands at the fmpoetry poetry website.
I’ve also got a new video with excellent views of Everest, the Himalayas and Gokyo’s turquoise lakes from the top of Gokyo Ri on YouTube.

I just updated some of my Brave New Traveler articles with comments containing relevant recent news stories:
Ant Theory of Humanity
Just came across Indra’s Net, which is a buddhist idea similar to the one in this article, and of course precedes it by quite some time!:
http://www.heartspace.org/misc/IndraNet.html
First alerted to it in an article on metaphor by Bridget Holding in Writing Magazine, April 2010.
God and Natural Disasters
An Iranian cleric has recently blamed promiscuous women for earthquakes:

Space Exploration Compared with History
NASA is celebrating the twenieth anniversary of Hubble this week:

There was some good news for hopes of finding extraterrestrial life in the universe when scientists announced rocky planets like Earth may be volumnous in our galaxy. But hopes of finding life outside the galaxy took a knock when it was found that some exoplanets reverse orbit their stars, overturning theories that planets always orbited their suns in the same direction as the star moved. Meanwhile, back on HQ, Planet Earth, President Obama was announcing an ambitious new space program for NASA to head further into space and onto Mars.
Have a univesally great weekend!!

After the Lukla-Gokyo video quickly became my most viewed YouTube video, I have rush-released the prequel, covering the Jiri to Lukla part of the Everest Nepal Himalayas trek, along with some photos from Kathmandu. It’s viewable from the above link.
Vertical and Horizontal Sky
There was vertical straight edge grey cloud in the morning yesterday, and horizontal in the evening, reminding me of the Some Clouds Have a Silver Lining Folding Mirror poem.
Is God Always Going to be Just Beyond Us?
I was also thinking how when people thought the world was flat they probably thought that God had made it that way so we would always be limited in where we could go, and that God would always be beyond us.
Now that we’ve circumnavigated the world, and know it is circular, some people think God may be beyond us in the universe. In another five hundred years, when we may have mapped out the solar system and worked out the universe, will God still be beyond us somewhere?

How is Ricky Martin linked with the Greenygrey; and Wonders of the Solar System with South Park? Find out today at the Greenygrey.
Ricky Martin and the Greenygrey links
We all know that Ricky Martin sang about la vida loca, and GG is a bit of a crazy lobo, but after Ricky Martin this week announced he was gay we here at the Greenygrey sense that you may be gossiping at an office style location about how you have known the Greenygrey for so long but don’t even know its gender yet, let alone its sexuality. Well, to tell you the truth, I haven’t been that close to find out, and GG ain’t telling!
Wonders of the Solar System and South Park in One Poem
Yes, that’s right, through the magic of the Folding Mirror 3-d format, we can bring you a poem that combines the high culture of the Wonders of the Solar System documentary series with the utterly outrageous gutter humour of the South Park comedy show, with a link in the middle. Intrigued? You bloody well should be. It’s over at the fmpoetry site this very moment, just waiting for your perusal.
Thanks for all your visits in March, watch out for any April Fool jokes, and GG will be here tomorrow to reveal the website March statistics…but not its gender!

One Minute Astronomer’s latest newsletter informs us that Saturn is bright in the UK/northern sky after sunset at the moment, and it also gives a good brief description of the planet and its rings and moons.
Titan’s Methane Lakes and Links
Funnily enough, the Wonder(s) of the Solar System this week was the methane liquid lakes thought to have been found on Titan, one of Saturn’s moons. They are thought to contain the first surface liquid anywhere else in the solar system. There is a good image of the lakes on the OMA website.
Improving Website Page
On a more greenygrey matter, I did some work to tidy up the portfolio page on the website and make one addition today; as well as updating the lower links on each page.
Hope you’re having a great week, cheers.
